I'm at my wits end with Premiere Pro CS4. I can capture video just fine in the program using the old ADS Tech Pyro A/V Link that I had previously purchased with Premiere Elements 2.0 back in the day. It captures flawlessly with CS4. However, when it becomes part of the project, just the audio will play and I get a black (sometimes teal) screen in the program monitor and does the same when put in the timeline. I don't get it, while capturing in CS4, I see both video and audio. Outside of the program the video will open fine with Quicktime, Windows Media Player, Adobe Bridge, etc. It will also open just fine in Elements 2.0 (I have recently uninstalled this thinking there might be a software conflict). Also, not sure if this is related or not, Premiere Pro CS4 will almost always go to "Not Responding" mode whenever I try to close out of a project in which this video was imported.

I've run GSPOT - It tells me the proper CODEC is installed. I've tried a couple codec packs K-lite..but no such luck.

    Here's what I have:
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00 GHz
    - Vista Home Premium SP2
    - 4 GB RAM

    The Video Info:
    - .avi
    - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    - 640 x 480 Millions 16 Bit Integer

I appreciate the help in advance.

looks like it's been captured in an illegal size. DVavi can only be 720x480 if ntsc.

try mediainfo in text mode and copy and paste the info here.

The previous info I provided came from Quicktime. Running MediaInfo says the following:

    AVI: 60.1 MiB, 16s 583ms
1 video stream: Digital Video (Sony)
    1 audio stream: PCM (Microsoft)

    First Video Stream
    24.4 Mbps, 720*480 (1.500), at 29.970 fps, Digital Video (Sony)(NTSC)

    First Audio stream
    1 536 Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 2 channels, PCM (Microsoft) (Little / Unsigned)

why'd it say 640x480 before? 720x480 DVavi is fine and should work in any editor. the only odd thing i see is the (1.500) aspect ratio. that needs to be either (4:3) or (16/9) those are the only 2 standards that will work in DVavi.

dvsd is normal DVavi standard def.

back to the original problem then, pp cs4 works fine with DVavi. so does vegas and every other editor.

try capturing with some other program and then import the DVavi into pp cs4.

it's also possible a codec pack replaced the micosoft DVavi codec with something else.

Figured it out....it was the graphics driver on my computer. Windows update did not find the most recent driver - I had to go to intel's site to get the most current driver. Installed it and it works great! Dumb windows update....grrr.
