I am trying to edit Panasonic ZS3 (TZ7) files in Vegas 9, and when I render them, more than half the time, the result is a video that plays fine for a few minutes, then the video will all of a sudden be playing back in slo-mo, with the audio being fine. It's not a playback issue, it's something that is happening in the rendering process. I have disabled "smart rendering" from the switches option, ("No rendering") but that doesn't help. I don't really want to convert M2TS to something else, then edit, then convert to something else. I understand Vegas is the best bet for AVCHD Lite files, but would buy anything if I knew it would work properly. I need to edit, subsitute audio (sometimes) and maybe add some basic titles to clips and export in a decent HD format, and MPEG for DVD use...
This doesn't happen on ALL my videos, but easily half the ones I try and edit end up having this issue. Usually kicks in about 5 minutes into a particular clip...

Are you sure your project format matches the file specs for resolution, frame rate and is set to progressive?
Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Are you using 9.0c x64 ? That version is supposed to be very buggy, and numerous reports of issues on various forums.
You can try rolling back to 9.0b or 9.0a and see if it helps -
Not sure what my project format should be, since AVCHD Lite files are wonky because of the 60fps vs 30fps issue...
I believe I am on 9b... -
you should be using 1280x720 / 29.97
right click and disable resample for each clip -
When you say :
It's not a playback issue, it's something that is happening in the rendering process
If so, what settings did you use to export? and how are you watching it / what software? and please fill in your system specs -
System is a P4 3.0ghz running XP, 2gb memory. Exporting to 720p (same res as project)...I have tried a few different export options (HD and DVD quality MPEG) and they all slow down. Using VLC to watch or Zoom player.
Edited to add: I also tried it on my dual core laptop, same story... -
I can import the same "problem videos" into Powerdirector and export no problem as well.
