  1. How can I find out?

    I have an ATI HD card. It was using 0% CPU before. Now somehow it's using 40-50% CPU. How can I check to make sure the right codec is in use?

    Thanks!

  2. Right click on the MPC or MPCHC window while playing your video. Hover over Filters... You'll see the list of filters that are in use. Select one to view its properties.

  3. It's CoreAVC decoder in play. However, in the option -> external filter, I've removed it. How can I find which one is using the ATI hardware?

    Thanks!

  4. You have to be using MPCHC, not MPC. View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> Transform Filters -> H264/AVC (DXVA). Enable that.

  5. It's MPCHC. Did what you said. Now CPU is down. However, screen is blank. The filter is MPC Video decoder. DXVA mode is H.264 bitstream decoder, no FGT. Video card is ATI Radeon HD 4350.

    In Add/Remove Programs, I did repair ATI AVIVO Codec. But it does not help.

    The mts file plays in VLC, with thudder

    What else could I try?

    Thanks!

    Sounds like we may have similar problems....

    Have you ever had these files playing smoothly?

  7. Make sure you have the latest WHQL certified drivers from ATI. Make sure your video is DXVA compatible. DXVA does not support all h.264 features.

  8. I can play it back with CoreAVC on a quad-core box with 50% CPU taken.

    I tried to disable MPCHC H264/AVC(DXVA) and check which decoder is in action. First it was CoreAVC, blocked it; Then it's "MainConcept(Adobe2) H.264/AVC Decoder", not smooth, disabled it; Last, it's Sonic AVC Decoder DMO, disabled it. Now, MPCHC complains missing codec for the following:

    Media Type 0:
    --------------------------
    Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x1080 29.97fps

    AM_MEDIA_TYPE:
    majortype: MEDIATYPE_Video {73646976-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
    subtype: Unknown GUID Name {31435641-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
    formattype: FORMAT_MPEG2_VIDEO {E06D80E3-DB46-11CF-B4D1-00805F6CBBEA}
    bFixedSizeSamples: 0
    bTemporalCompression: 0
    lSampleSize: 1
    cbFormat: 222

    subtype {31435641-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71} is registered by those 3 decoders that I disabled.

    I found there is ATI MPEG Video Decoder and set it to preferred. Under MEDIATYPE_Video, there is no {31435641-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}. So I added it. However, MPC-HC is complaining the same thing.

    Somewhere I read ATI does not provide H264 decoder in 2008 so DXVA is needed. Since I now see ATI codec, I'd think they now provides a decoder that uses its hardware.

    Is this right? Am I missing something here?

    Thanks!

  9. I uninstalled and reinstalled CoreAVC Pro. It has CUDA acceleration, which use GPU to do so. The box is greyed out and the tray icon is blue not green during playback.

    So I think the AVIVO driver is somehow broken. Has anyone have problem with AVIVO?

    Thanks!

  10. I think DXVA for HD files is limited to 3 consecutive b-frames and 4 Reference Frames, Profile High @ Level 4.1. If your video does not conform to that DXVA will not work right. MediaInfo will show you the Profile and ReFrames.

    I don't think ATI supports CUDA.

  11. Finally got it working. The problem is the ATI AVIVO seems to dead.

    Uninstall ATI CCC, display driver, reboot

    Driver Clean, reboot

    Choose the driver for Windows popup for VGA and HDMI audio

    reboot, test mts playback, working

    Install CCC, do NOT reboot, connect TV, configure overscan, theatre mode, aspect ratio to match source, reboot

    remove CCC as it cause all kind of problem. If there is way to configure w/o it, it would be great

    My mistake on CoreAVC. It only support nVidia hardware
