Ok I know you can't capture dts 5.1 on the hd pvr1212. But is there a work around at all?

I just did a test dub on capping a bluray off my ps3 to the hauppauge via component and it looks outstanding. I can get a perfectly suitable m2ts file for burning to dual layer dvdr in realtime instead of the 16+ hours it would take to do a mkv conversion on my dual core amd 2.7ghz pc.

HOWEVER I can see the big wrinkle will be blurays with dts only multichannel tracks. Is there any way around this?

I'd like to be able to do this method of backup versus the anydvdhd (which I do have) and then the ripbot264 crunch. But the kicker is keeping the 5.1 audio from dts only discs.

Do I have an alternative? I do have fiber optic inputs on my creative xfi soundcard. However the hauppauge capture software only allows inputs from its own hardware as audio sources from what I have been able to tell.

What I was able to do was use the analog audio left and right rca cables for the stereo capture. That worked great. But I'd love multichannel capture on dts tracks.

Is there a way to do this? I had an inkling that an audio setting on the ps3 might do it. It has the option of selecting dolby 5.1 and or dts 5.1 as audio outputs when selecting optical audio out. Is there a chance in hell that selecting only dolby 5.1 out would "downconvert" dts 5.1 to dolby 5.1 on the fly so that the hd pvr 1212 would be tricked into thinking that the ps3 was actually sending out real dolby 5.1 instead of dts 5.1?

I don't have time to test this theory tonight but would be interested if this is possible. I have a dts capable receiver so that is why I always check both, never tested if dts would output in 5.1 while only dolby is selected. That would be sweet if it works.

In the end if there isn't a way to dts with the hauppauge it would still be a great time saver for all the dolby 5.1 titles out there. THat would save a ton of conversion time for me. Just doing realtime caps is a breeze. Only downside is manually stopping the recording to save wasted space.

Thanks for tips.
