I have a Samsung 40" LCD 1080p screen in my family room, about 1 year old. For the last few days, when I first turn it on, there are pixalations on the background that resemble dead pixels, except that they are not. There are hundreds scattered through the screen. To the left there is an actual row of them that corresponds exactly to the small control menue that briefly appears on the screen when first turning on. These are visible even when a TV channel or a DVD movie is playing. I discovered that by immediately turning off the unit and then turning it back on again they disappear and the unit runs perfectly as long as I want. The picture quality is outstanding and it plays perfectly. I have not changed anything, all cables are tight, and there were no power surges (that I am aware of) and it is plugged into a surge protector.

Any thoughts on this before I call Samsung?

If it does it with a DVD playing and corrects when power cycled, it sounds like an internal failure.

Thanks, ED, I will throw in a movie and see what happens when I get home from work tonight! Drat! I hope this thing is not in the process of failing.

It's almost certainly the TV failing. Probably a cold solder joint.
