i wonder how masturbating next to a Mac affects the warranty?Unless you've recently arrived in 2009 on a time machine, you know that smoking isn't good for you. Did you know, however, that smoking isn't good for your computer, either? It's true, at least according to Apple. Two readers in different parts of the country claim that their Applecare warranties were voided due to secondhand smoke. Both readers appealed their cases up to the office of God Steve Jobs himself. Both lost.

If it's a Mac computer, it voids the warranty as far as the keyboard is concerned. If you do it in front of a guy named "Mac", he'll probably void your life.
There are no problems - only chances to excel.

what if you only smoke crack while you use your weirdo computer that's made for left-handed nutjobs?

Good.
Smoking does massive damage to electronic components, especially optical-based one. This is really no difference than dropping it in a swimming pool or letting your cat sleep on it. Those are user errors, not machine errors.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Yeah have any of you ever cleaned out a computer that was owned by a heavy smoker? However Apple is taking the wrong tact with their approach. Instead of saying that tar buildup inside the computer is misuse/abuse of the machine they're going with the defense that it's a health hazard to the employee who cleans it out. Like they clean the things, they just pitch it and send you a refurb.

What a F'n joke!!!!!
They may as well say you don't get a warranty unless you keep their equipment in a "clean room"
Good thing i never have and never will give them any $$

You realize other manufacturers could certainly follow the same example. Just because Apple is often vilified for their stance on almost everything doesn't mean some other OEM hasn't already done the same thing.

It is just plain and simply ridiculous!!!!!!
I have had many people bring me their desktop PC's and they were jammed full & every little hole was clogged with dust, dustbunnies the size of a real rabbits, pet hair, ect and they live in totally smoke free homes!!!
Hence my statement about "clean rooms".......
I have smoked constantly withing 12 inches of my all my PC's, my last pc for the last 4+ years, it is now sitting at the desk next to me and still works perfectly fine!!
I may clean them out with a can of air once a year if i think about it and have the time....
And yes, like any PC they are loaded and dirty, regardless of the environment.
Now i will admit that my towers and monitors that were once a nice white or off white color definitely show the effects of smoke being around them, which is why i now opt for black monitors and cases, LOL!!!
But when my burners, which should be the first and most adversely affected thing, the lenses, from smoke or staining, usually last me a good 3-4 years with 1000's of burns, this is just total BS from a "brand" that is already way over priced!!!
My brother used to live on one of the 3 main roads in our town, those big @$$ double trailer gravel hauling semi's used to run 5 days a week all day long from all the gravel pits near us.
He used to get pissed because he could not open his windows in the summer because within a few hours there would be tons of dust all over his house!!!
And he was and is a NON smoker!!!
The point is, there are 10 other things in the real world that could contaminate PC's or other electronics & hurt them for every smoker.
End rant!!!!

Our products are supported by only 10% of the software and hardware manufacturers in the entire world, but we market our items in cool colors and in cool ways so buy from us and be part of the cool minority!!

Meh, if it weren't for Apple's innovation I wouldn't want to think where the rest of the computer market would be. I'm not going to get involved in the argument because it's like arguing about religion with people: most choose sides and stubbornly stick to them. I use all three big desktop operating systems, they are all excellent tools for different things. To ignore that fact is, well, ignorant
As to the other methods of computer contamination I agree. This isn't just about smoking but numerous other things. We're probably not getting the entire story here. The few really terrible systems I'd seen were from years of smoking combined with pet hair and a dusty, humid environment to create a terrible build-up on the internals of the PC. One of my coworkers used to run a small computer business in some small town area of OK and he had refused service repairs of several machines based on abuse of the system. I'd make the comparison to a car and its warranty. If the interior starts coming off due to heavy smoking in the car do you think the dealer is going to replace it? This isn't an Apple vs smokers issue, it's probably just a PC OEM vs abusive owner. We don't get to hear the entire story because this author, like so many other anti-Apple people, stamps their bias. A better writer would go look for other examples on other sides of the issue to really prove their point instead of keeping so narrow a view.
