Can someone please tell me what's the difference between 4:3 Letter Box and 4:3 PAN Scan when choosing screen size aspect ratio for your DVD options? Thanks

4:3 letterbox (aka widescreen) format is made for the TV screen which is almost square in shape, but in widescreen format (when you see the black strips on the top and bottom of the screen; you are viewing the entire shot that was viewed on the rectangular movie screen in the theatres).
4:3 pan/scan is when it is made for a TV screen, and the movie is cropped so it takes up the entire screen. However in this mode, you miss about 50% of the actual picture. The reason for this is that they need to crop the film which was made for the rectangular shape of the screen in the theatres so that it will fill the square-shaped screen of a TV.
