Hello,
I have been backing up my entire DVD collection to my HDD so that I don't have to lug them around everywhere. Thus far I have been using DVD Decrypter and AutoGK and it's been simply perfect.
However, now I have come across a DVD that is scratched. This one has 5 episodes - I was able to decrypt 3 of the episodes no problem. The other 2, however, had read errors and DVD Decrypter had trouble ripping them. After a few attempts, I ended up setting it to ignore read errors and then it successfully got the episodes. When I play the ripped VOB directly in VLC Media Player, it plays fine apart from the stuttering near the beginning where the disc was bad - audio and video is perfectly in sync throughout the video (maybe VLC is auto adjusting it, I don't know). However, when I try to convert this VOB to AVI/Xvid using AutoGK, the audio is something like 5 seconds ahead of the video (except for the first 3 mins or so before the "bad read area").
I've also tried several other programs to convert the VOB without success, and I've tried using DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip instead of DVD Decrypter, and ran it through FixVTS.
I'm not real savvy with video stuff so I just can't figure out why the VOB plays fine but it goes screwy whenever I try to convert it to AVI. I tried VOB2MPG (tried the resulting MPG and was sync'd fine) and then tried to use AutoGK to convert the MPG to AVI/Xvid but it still goes out of sync, and I noticed AutoGK said: "Warning! Found different number of frames: 63331". So don't know if that's any clue.
But if anyone has had this problem and can help, it'd be greatly appreciated!

I too am getting this problem. I rip to wireless send to upstairs non optical computer and on demand. This means I attempt to rip many discs per month. I need a three cent solution to deal with scratches. I have tried the toothe paste home solution from Utube, but no luck. Ordering from internet is not going to happen. Got the skip doctor, but too expensive and save for data cds. Is there a local Walmart or Napa wax that could do a few thousand dvds for under twenty bucks?
Or do I need to buy anydvd, because new copy protection scheme only botching up certain vob on disc?Love they forum and fellow poster.
