I presently have a Analog TV hooked up to my DVD Recorder (JVC DR-M10S,) which records everthing I want from Comcast Cable (Basic) for later viewing. If I were to get an HDTV, would I still be able to use it and with what result?

Yes, you can use it, it will look the same as any other standard definition analog cable, DVD or antenna analog source.

If you split the incoming cable to the DVD recorder and the HDTV (not daisy chain), you will be able to tune unencrypted HD QAM channels (e.g local broadcast and some cable channels) and watch in high def. Your DVD recorder will continue to see only the analog channels.
You would connect the DVD recorder to the HDTV with analog component + audio cables.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

No need to split. Just pass it.
