Here's my dilema.... I am using DVD Shrink to create single vobs then convert them to mpg using vob2mpg. I do not select subtitles and under dvd shrink settings there is an option to disable all subpictures excepts menus and forced streams. I have that optoin selected. After backing up just the main title I am using vob2mpg to convert to a mpg. But for some reason when I do this there are subtitles. Very annoying.

I would use the VOB as they are, but for some reason the audio does not play through the digital port on my computer. I have a toslink cable that goes from the computer to a sony receiver, but no audio comes out. If I use the HDMI audio instead everything plays fine. If I rename the vob to mpg extension the audio plays fine but their are subtitles. Am I missing an option in DVD Shrink? Actually, even if I use winrar to extract the Video_ts folder from the ISO and try the same procedure there are still subtitles. Any ideas?

  2. When you play a VOB (not the DVD, but a VOB as a file by double-clicking on one), you still get the subs, don't you? They're burned into the video and there's nothing you can do to get rid of them.

The VOB2MPEG step (or renaming a VOB to MPG) did nothing to make the subs magically appear. They were there from the beginning.

Not all subs are soft or switchable subs.
