According to a friend in the tech-support business a "computer trade" columnist has stated that WinNT and Win98(-2) won't be supported after June 2002.

This appears to mean that Microsoft's website will no longer supply patches, etc for them.

    This will make re-installs inpossible!

My answer is to do clean installs, including all updates, of each OS on every platform I can find and to backup before replacing applications and other stuff. This should allow me to do a "re-install" if necessary.

  3. in the future it would be possible to stop support for these prdoucts.

so if you want to get around it, just download all the patches you need and burn them to cd, if you need to re-install whammo there they are.

Win98 IS a patch! A rather poor patch for giving DOS a GUI. LOL
