What software (windows xp or ubuntu) can I use to merge MOD files from a canon camcorder? Preferably by specifying the day or by selecting the files.
I want software that is lightweight (preferably no installation required).
Something fast that can use multi core processing
and if possible something that can turn off the computer when it is done
thanks!

I've had some experience with MOD files from a JVC HiDef camcorder that stored its HDV MPEG2 files in a MOD container. I found that SUPER could direct stream copy the MOD files into an MPG container. This would allow the files to used in a number of other programs.

mpeg-streamclip can also repackage MOD files into the mpeg container, however I don't of anything that will do what you are asking.
Read my blog here.

Just tried mpeg-streamclip on a MOD file as guns1inger suggested. Forget about SUPER, streamclip is much more convenient for this task.
