I used DVD2SVCD following the guide. The video turned out great. I tried having two language tracks, and that worked good. I tried pressing the subtitle button on my remote, but no subtitles or even the subtitle selector on the screen.
I tried the two different options for selectable subtitles with DVD2SVCD, SVCD Subtitles and CVD Subtitles, but neither works. For now I'll just use permanent subtitles, but I would rather not. I used the VCDXBuild as the imager.
Oh, and I checked the stats on the Pioneer 343 here, and it says svcd subs and tracks.

i just tried the SVCD NTSC Sample with CVD selectable subtitles, and the subs don't work. Does anyone have a solution/workaround?

Try the other setting, "svcd subtitles" instead of "CVD subtitles".

no pioneer player support svcd subs...neither svcd(submux) or cvd(iauthor). users have just reported wrong about the subs.
