For those of you who followed "Newbie Lost in a Sea of Information and Software," this morning I have my movie coded in three pieces - with sound - and I'm almost ready to burn them to CD.

I used Virtual Dub to extract the audio to a .wav file and then selected that file as the audio source in TMPGEnc. I used the original .avi movie as the video source and selected the PAL template for .mpg encoding. I used the slider bar to set the source range and broke this three-hour movie into three parts.

The problem I have this morning is that the first "piece" of the movie is 729MB, a little too big for my 700MB CD.

Should I rejoin the pieces and try another split?

  2. 729mbs will fit onto 1 700mb cd as the dater is witten diferently than say a basic dater cd you can fit 800mbs 0nto a 700mbs cd or 79minutes at 1150 CBR

Hi all. I burned my CDs yesterday and we've watched them. They look good but are far from perfect. The audio is synched well but there are patches where the video really seems a bit pixelated, especially when the movie shows a black screen, as in when the characters pass into a dark place, where little squares of color are clearly visible.

What causes this? I used TMPGEnc all the way, except for extracting the audio, which was done in Virtual Dub. Then burned the CDs in Nero. The Nero program accepted TMPGEnc without insisting the files be re-encoded.

I'm in the process now of redoing the movie with software I purchased just as an experiment to see if the clarity and resolution improve at all.

Any pointers would be muchly appreciated.

  5. pixelization the only obstacle to overcome i think there will be some pixelization no matter what i have crystal clear dvd rips no one block any where but as soon as i goes black there is some pixelization well up until i tried 2.52+ using VBR 2 PASS (high quality)(slow) and upping the bitrate somewhat but the pixelitation is only visible if you sit that close to the screen(for version 2.52+) or you telly is that huge i have 3 tvs a 34cm 51cm and 70 odd cm the 34cm nothing 51cm slight 71cm the blocks show up bad and the pixelization it looks like the sky and background are just constantly moving
