Your help would be greatly appreciated. (very much!)

I have got a TV series which I would like to transfer to a CD or DVD and I wonder how many episodes can i fit into a DVD with subtitles on it because I am deaf which I really need the subtitles. The format that Ive got is .AVI which it may need to be converted. It doesnt really matter if I cant play it on DVD player (which I can check its format it can play) but I can play it on the computer.

Can you recommend anything that is not too complicated for me or even guide me through it. I have searched high and low via the net and am no wiser.

Im desperate to transfer the files (12 episodes) asap as most of it on the harddrive which is taking up lots of space.

    Many thanks

If you have no need to play it in a standalone DVD player, then there is no need to do any conversion of any kind. Simply burn a disc with the existing avi files that you already know how to play. The type of disc you wlll be creating is an ordinary data disc, the same type that you would create to back up any other type of computer data. Converting to a DVD-compliant format is necessary only if you wish to play the vids on a standalone player. Since you've explicitly stated that this is not needed, then save yourself the time, trouble, and quality loss of conversion, and just create a data disc.

As for how many episodes you could fit on a disc, that depends on the bitrate with which the avi files were encoded. A single-layer blank DVD holds a bit over 4GB, so by looking at the size of the existing files you can figure out how many of those episodes will fit on s disc.

Yes thats the idea, but just get me this clear,

Could I back it up onto CD or DVD with subtitles - would I need any software to be able to do that?

OR would I be able to do it via the computer without any software and set up separate files for each one (avi and srt in one folder) - I think I'm beginning to understand what you're trying to say. I'll have a go to see how that goes.

    Thanks

The subtitles you have are "soft" or separate files. Just burn them together with the avi files in the same folder. One recommendation: give the srt files exactly the same name as the corresponding avi files. This way most of the players will recognize the subtitle files and display them when playing the video.
