I've been reading all over this forum for a few days now and I love it! I can't find exactly what I'm looking for though in a nutshell.

I have some football games that I recorded with a standalone DVD recorder onto DVD-Rs from just basic cable (comcast). I want to take clips (highlights) and post them on youtube. I want to use freeware and was hoping to get some advice on the second step of my plan.

I was basically planning on using dvdshrink to cut the clips of the DVD and re-author it.

Then I don't know what to do next. I want as good of quality as possible, which I know won't be anything amazing, but I don't want some ugly looking video like some videoss are on youtube. I can't seem to find what makes a youtube video good or bad. Does it matter what I do to the video? I just need a few tips on what I can do to make my uploaded videos on youtube look good. I'm a total newbie obviously and am just looking for a small solid foundation of advice.

    Thank you.

  2. Hi, & welcome

To put your clips on youtube you will not need to reauthor the video, just use vob2mpg to join all you vobs & turn them to mpeg2 (Thanks Guns1inger), once done, use mpg2cut2 to cut out the selection(s) you want to up load to youtube, you can upload mpeg2 directly to youtube.

    Thank you, GHOST!

I will give that a shot when I get off work here and see how it goes. Do you know how this affects the quality? I guess I will just try it out and see what the video looks like after it's uploaded onto youtube.

    Thanks again!

  4. The quality on youtube is usualy less than that of the source, not much you can do about that as far as I know, they use flash video (flv), which is compressed to the sh*%house.

  5. for youtube it depends on how much work you want to do. you could convert the 480i mpeg-2 dvd material to 4000kbps 720p mp4 with aac, upload that and get the HQ mp4 video on yt. it won't look any better than your 480i source but it's definitely nicer looking than the SD flvs you get uploading 480i on youtube.

So, I converted my VOB files to mpeg2 using VOB2Mpg2 and I was wondering what kind of simple filters I could use to make the video look better. I don't even know what the filters do. My video is just standard cable recorded with a standalone DVD recorder, then converted to Mpeg2.

It looks grainy, if that helps. What would be a good filter to start with in VirtualDub and how do I apply it?

    Thank you.
