  1. Just installed IE8. when I got to a website, it wont take me there unless I type www
So google.com does not work. Why is that? Is it some setting I have to change?

  2. When I click on websites, it says "There is a problem with this website's security certificate" and gives me the option to exit or continue. It is not like this on any of my other computers. Is it some sort of internet setting?

Ie 8 gose through these problems ... try tools > internet options > advance > reset ... quite possible it or an addon has caused this issue to appear.

Do you have any other firewall software installed ?

I removed IE8 from my computers after it decided to disable my spell checker and went back to IE7.

  7. Or try, Control Panel > Uninstall a program > IE8....

But seriously though, I have found IE8 needs some tweeking to get it working the way you want it to, just like Vista.

edit: good timing redwudz, both 18:18^

  8. Do you have compatibility mode turned off? If so, it needs to be turned on.

Check the individual security settings via the Custom Level button.

I'm testing IE8 at work - and I'm not liking it

The www thing is a setting.

Also the security certificate stuff is only for https (secure) sites, and seems to be really anal.
    If in doubt, Google it.

IE7 is not web-standards compliant, it should die and go away like IE6. Having to always build in hack-CSS for IE6/IE7 is ridiculous, to make sure everybody see the site correctly.

Use a compliant browser. MS has finally pulled its head out of its ass with IE8, which is now compliant to standards.

Failing IE, use Firefox or Chrome or Safari.

  14. hi guys, compatibility mode is on. It keeps saying something to the effect of my certificate is expired. But when I install it, it is ok. But if I ever come back to the page again, the certificate is expired again.

Then at the top of the page, there is a bar that always pops up, incidcating "to help protect your security, IE has blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors, click here for options"

So I click "display blocked contents" But everytime I come back to the page, it cycles back again.......

Settings are medium-high security. Same settings on my other laptop running IE8. Same page, but laptop does not have this problem. Only desktop has this certificate expiration and displaying blocked contents every single time........

  15. If I visit the same page using my laptop, there is no certificate error. Compatibility mode is not even turned on on my laptop - no problems.

It is the desktop, even with compatibility mode turned ON, that has the certificate error when visiting the same webpage.

  16. Try: Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Security -> Check for publishers certificate revocation. And: Check for server certificate revocation. And maybe: Warn about certificate address mismatch.

Check for server certificate revocation. (Not Checked)
Warn about certificate address mismatch. (CHECKED)

Same settings on my laptop but no issues? No idea why, even after I check the middle one --> same problem.
On my laptop, even with the compatibility mode OFF, there are no issues. On my desktop, even with compatibility mode ON, it will always have certificate expired, bar that asks me to display content, every time I visit the page. Security settings are the same on both, even after checking all middle above, same problem.

No problem with firefox, just trying to understand why IE8 works on one computer, does not work on another computer, with identical secruity and internet settings.

Works fine in Firefox 3 and IE6.

Certificate is relatively new, issued on 5/13/2009.

I had updated to IE7 on the home machine a while back and I seem to vaguely recall there being a "Root Certificate" update via Windows update. I don't really use IE, so I could be mis-remembering. But might be worth a try?

  20. hi everyone, i tried playing around with the settings and checked the above 3 like jagabo recommended. but for some reason, it still finds my certificates expired. no idea what is going on.

  21. I was unable to duplicate your problem with that web site no matter what settings I used.

Check the date and time on your computer?

  22. jagabo, it happens on my desktop running XP and IE8. I just remformatted that computer.

I am running two other laptops in the household. One is XP with IE8 and the other is Vista with IE 8. Both laptops are fine. Desktop has some problems. I checked the settings against all 3 and they are identical. Medium high security, no restricted sites.

  23. The only way I was able to get something like you are describing is by setting the date a year in advance. That's not to say there is no other way, just that that was all I found.

  24. nope, i have july 3, 2009. sigh, i will just use firefox. thank u everyone.

Is it possible that the certificate(s) are installed in the wrong store ?

I think you have to "manually" tell it to place them in "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
