    I need help.
With interest rates now below inflation rates, savings are losing their value. So I thought I might as well spend some money.
So I though about replacing my old 42" plasma TV.
Trouble is, I'm having a very hard time resisting buying a Pioneer Kuro 600A.
I KNOW I can get 95% the quality of the Kuro at about half the price, but I'm still lusting after the 600A.
Anyone got any good arguments against the Pioneer apart from price and the fact that Pioneer will stop making TV's soon?

How do you know you'll be getting a panel that was actually manufactured by PIONEER? Remember now they no longer make their own panels. Last year they announced they will use PANASONIC panels.

    Because Pioneer make them?

"However, we have judged that maintaining the cost competitiveness of plasma display panels at projected sales volumes will be difficult going forward. Accordingly, we have decided to terminate in-house plasma display panel production and to procure these panels externally, after panel production for our next series of models is complete...Pioneer is currently in discussions on the feasibility of procuring panel modules that may incorporate the Company's proprietary technologies."
    Pioneer March 2009

So the Kuro will be the last of the true Pioneer panels.
LCD's are still about 1 or 2 generations away from matching top of the range plasmas, though the next gen Pioneers are reputed to be better at turning off backlights to simulate true blacks (better discrimination of lit screen areas) than the current Samsung models.
Oh Gawd - I'm still arguing myself into it...

You seem to REALLY want this model, and you are going to be staring at whatever you buy for a long time. Human nature dictates that if you buy something that you really do not want, you will never be happy with it, and you will take every opportunity to find fault with it . Buy what you want, and ENJOY it - life is way too short .

Viper vs Honda. Common sense and budget dictates. Life is too short, get a bunch of years and then look back.

Not in large sizes and at reasonable prices. USD$2499 for an 27" panel (Sony) ? Has anyone else actually gone to market with one yet ?

    Buy the Kuro.

    Buy the Kuro.
Took your advice... Bought it (Thank you - I was looking for an excuse)
It's now on the wall after the living room re-modelling has finally finished.
Oh Dear - it's got an amazing picture, it's making me watch crepe I'd never normally allow on TV! - Curse You Kuro!
I was scared that SD would look horrible on a 60", but the upscaling capabilities must be top notch cos it looks better than my old 42" (5 years) plasma.
Shadow details are breathtaking, really deep blacks, almost 3D looking.
HTPC connected at 1920*1080 and even avi's are eminently watchable.
I'm not too worried about Pioneer stopping plasma production, cos it came with a 5 year like-for-like guarantee, and I reckon Pioneer should still be around in 5 years.
    Overall I'm a happy bunny

  12. Yep, the Kuro series are/were the benchmark for all Plasmas to be measured against.

Wish I had the coin to buy one
