    I downloaded windows media player v11. It keeps telling me that I do not have a compatible dvd decoder, I need a mpeg 2. I do not understand. please tell me what this is and where I find this and how I use it.
    I installed firefox and this started..I have uninstalled firefox and downloaded v11 now no go at all.

    Download powerdvd trial version and install that,it will install the mpg2 codecs you need.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

    Another option is to avoid WMP altogether and simply play DVDs using VLC. It is free, and will play just about anything on the planet.

    MPCHC, KMPlayer, VLC all have their own built in MPEG2 decoders. If you must use WMP install ffdshow. It includes a DirectShow MPEG 2 decoder that WMP can use. You may still need DVD decrypting software.
