    I bought this monitor

    http://www.visionquestce.com/content/view/143/98/lang,en/type,specifications/

It's a 24" monitor which is said to be native 1920x1200.

I am using the dvi connector (haven't checked vga yet) set to 1920x1200 in the properties and the monitor accepts it but with large overscan. The Monitor's menu says it's set to 1400x1050 and my nvidia card says the native resolution of the monitor is 1440x900 and the menu has no option to change the resolution.

There are no drivers for it for xp.

The whole screen is displayed but much of it is off the visible portion so I have to go to the edges until it moves either up/down left or right until I get to the part I want to see.

If I set the resolution on the pc to 1400x1050 it fits perfectly.

Their site doesn't offer much help and their tech support number is some guy's box who's out of the office and offers to call you back. IMPRESSIVE!........... NOT!!!!!

I have 30 days to muck with this thing but it won't last past the weekend if I can't resolve this.

Any ideas other than trying vga.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  2. Interesting read on the specs. The website states that 1920x1080 is the "Optimum Resolution", I would guess the same wording is in the manual. Seems like the actual resolution is really 1440x900, what they are telling you is that 1920x1080, is, in their opinion, the best resolution which you should use. Bovine Excrement.

IMO you have been ripped off and should attempt to get your money back. Don't like the look or feel of that website, I would recommend doing business with a reputable reseller such as newegg, or an actual B & M store in your area where you can see it, touch it, taste it, smell it, etc.

I just tested the vga port and it sets the resolution perfectly when I change it to 1920x1200 and when I press the menu button, the monitor says that it's 1920x1200 also. If I select something like 1200x1024 on the desktop It also changes in the menu to show the same resolution. This is what I expected should happen but using the dvi it wasn't changing, it always showed 1400x1050 when I pressed the menu button.

The retail box specs clearly state 1920x1200 "Native Resolution" but the somewhat limited manual says only that the resolution is 1920x1200. It also mentions a number of presets (8) including WUXGA (1920x1200), WSXGA (1680x1050) etc... but there is no way to set those manually using the menu button. Some options like "auto adjust" don't show up with the dvi cable but now are there with the vga. I removed the dvi cable because I have another one in a box and I'll try that one when I dig it out in a day or so in case the first cable was faulty.

At least I know that it works on the vga but I'd sooner use the digital connector.

Another thing bothering me is that the site shows the monitor at 2ms refresh rate but the box and the manual both say 12ms. The site says the brightness is 400 (cd/m2) and the manual says 300. The contrast ratio is reported as 800:1 on their site but the manual says it's 2000:1

Whatever they are the contrast and brightness look fine so that's not an issue but the refresh rate could be a problem in some cases if it's not 2ms.

I really wanted a 16:10 format monitor. Most of the 24" on sale are 16:9 so I was glad to find this at Staples (Canada) for $230 ca. That's very good around here for a 24" 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 monitor.

You need to install the newest drivers for your video card to get to 1920x1200,also most lcd monitors made in the last 2 years are 8ms and lower so 12ms is a mistake.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

It works on vga at full res. Would the drivers only affect the dvi connector? I agree that 12ms is a weird number and the salesguy at Staples was sure it is 2ms and also thought that the "printer" of the box and manual got it wrong. But then again... you never know with these unknown off-brands.

  6. Not sure of the Canadian dollar conversion but I think Newegg could beat that price on a name brand monitor.

Updating the drivers can definitely affect DVI resolution from the card, have had a similar experience though the VGA had the same problems. It seems to be more in the realm of properly recognizing the display capabilities than any real limitation on the card. At least the VGA connection on yours proves the monitor can match the spec, though with LCD's there can be resizing going on.

Too much hokieness with all those number variations. 12ms is too slow, 2ms almost impossibly fast at that price. Brightness and contrast variations similar. Don't want no funk in my monitor, eyesight required a decent investment that I wouldn't want to have to make a second time real soon.
