  1. Any thoughts on Coolermaster power supplies....

    Looking at this ps...

    http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=22&id=51

How do they compare to Corsair or Enermax of similar power?

I swapped my Celeron 2.93 socket 478 & Machspeed (Biostar) mobo out and replaced it with my AMD X24200 cpu & MSI K8N Neo2 socket 939 mobo...

The existing 20 pin Enermax 435 w seems to be a little underpowered for the replacement mobo...

I get a few bsod when I bootup or launch apps. Never happened before with the Celeron and YES I did a fresh re-install of XP Pro and it's patched to SP3.

Also I had to disconnect one of my cases fans as it was taking forever to detect hard drives.... With one fan disconnected, hard drive detection improved quite a bit but not as fast as with Celeron...

I have a mid tower case with three case fans (one now unplugged), 4 ide hard drives (three plugged into mobo and one via a Promise ATA PCI card) and one ide DVD burner. 2gbs of DDR ram (2x 1gm sticks)... Video card is a NVidia 128 mb 6200 LE... I also have a Hauppauge PVR 250 pci capture card... Ethernet & sound are onboard....

Previous Celeron cpu & mobo was very stable in this case. The AMD X2 4200 & MSI cpu were also very stable in my main computer with a 550 Corsair ps. The case with the Corsair is now home to a AMD Phenom II X3 710 and gigabyte mobo... Also very stable..

I'm now thinking of replacing my powersupply for the X2 4200.

Which one of these two ps would be the better?

Enermax EG-565PE-VE (535W) power supply $79 (Canadian prices)

    OR

CoolerMaster eXtreme Power Duo 600W SLI $89

Both of these are available at a neighborhood Mom & Pop shop...

The computer is not for gaming, it's for video editing...

    Thanks kindly

  2. i'd hold out for a 80plus certified psu. the energy efficiency of those 2 is pretty low especially the coolermaster. of the 2, the enermax is a bit better and has 4 12volt rails vs. 2 for the other.

  3. I prefer Corsair myself but I would have it purchase it online and I was hoping to replace the ps by the weekend...

    Thanks for your reply...Much appreciated....

  4. Fry's every now and then has good price on PSU and boxes with PSU. You can get a Antec that comes with 500 W or sometimes 550W PSU for about the same prices but the difference is, a new box has much better ventilation. Older boxes didn't have this big fans now they are all over the box. Unless you have more than one GPU you could do with 500Watt range. I think for low to average performance computer all these name brands are the same just don't buy any off brand.

OCZ / PC Power & Cooling both make good cooling supplies. PC P&C are probably the best power supplies out there... but you will pay for it. Also note that having multiple rails isn't necessarily a good thing. If you don't divide up the power load right, you will end up putting too much load on one rail and and under utilizing others, which can result in instability. All of PCP&C's PSUs and I am pretty sure most of OCZ's PSUs all use a single rail.

That said, I am currently running an Athlon64 4200+ 4 SATA drives (5 counting the hot-swap drive bay), 2 ATA DVD burners, 2 120mm & 1 90 mm case fan, nvidia 8800GTS 512MB (g92) video card, sound card. My PSU is an Epsilon FX600-GLN and I have run my system for weeks without reboot, probably could even longer if patches and such didn't require restarts.
