I just offered to burn someone some video files on a disc along with audio files and he said:
'it's best to just put the videos on the CD only mate
The more space used on the disc, the less the quality of the videos it'll be'

He said: 'Read something on the net about it, because I was going to put all my video series on disc as backup'

I dont understand this though i thought the only way you could lose video quality was for either to file to get corrupted or if you reencode it?

Can someone please tell me if he is correct and if so how?

    Thank you.

Whoever you were speaking to is either ignorant or deluded. Burning a file to DVD as data give you the same result as burning the same file to CD as data.

    Ok thanks very much.
But am i right that the only way you iwll get loss in digital video is either by reencoding it or if it gets corrupted? (therefore its noticably terrible quality as it goes all blocky)
am i correct or are there more ways you get quality loss in digital video?

    Thanks for your quick reply..

That's pretty much it. If you copy it bit for bit to a CD, DVD, USB stick or even tape, the results will be the same.
