  1. I've seen DVD menus where the menu upon loading has "Play Movie" but when you go back to the main menu during the feature, it says "Resume" in place of the play function. Looking at DVD-Lab Pro's connection diagram, I'm assuming that the Resume main menu is the Root Menu (it is also the first menu I get when I load a disc with PowerDVD with DVD Region Free enabled and hit Root Menu while the menus are loading) and the Play Movie main menu is a first play menu. My question is how do you have other menus (scenes, setup, bonus) go back to either the "Play Movie" or "Resume" menu based on whether the film has been watched before? Are there duplicate menus with links to either of the main menus or does one have to edit the VM commands?

resume is based on a register state, and therefore only available during the current play session. If you take the disc out and put it back in again, resume will start from the beginning of the title. Resume is usually found on sub-menus, such as subtitle and audio track menus as a fixed feature of the menu, not based on whether or not the disc has been partially played or not. All the discs I have have a play movie and resume movie option, and if the the title has not been played yet, both start the title from the beginning.

If you did want to be clever, then you would have to set a register value when the title is selected, to indicate that the title has been at least started in this session. You would then write a pre command for the main menu that checks this value, and redirects to an alternate menu if resume is needed. This menu could have a resume button that issues an RSM for the title in question to resume playback.

Have a look at this post at the DVDLab Pro forum at Mediachance : http://www.mmbforums.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=13641&hl=resume
