So I've asked this at a Game Stop a few months ago and they didn't have any products they could offer.

Can you play your Nintendo DS on the tv?

The reason I ask is I have a slot 1 cartridge adapter and I can play nes roms on it. I don't have a modded console and don't want to mod any of my consoles (I have a ps3, 360, and a Wii). But I'd like to use my DS on the tv since I can do this via soft modding through the cartridge adapter.

The DS has been out for what four years or so now? I can't imagine there isn't something available for this application. The video game shows all show crisp video of DS games when they review new titles. There has to be some technical way to do this.

I wouldn't want to spend more than sixty or seventy dollars on this. Any more and I think I'd be better off buying a PSP and modding it. Doesn't the PSP have tv out capability?

EDIT - doh - just thought of this. Would it be better to buy a used XBOX 1 and mod the sucker? I mean even soft modding would let you play roms on it right? Would that be the best option? I think gamestop sells them for under 50.00. That's probably better than any specialized ds adapter. Probably also give a better picture since I could get a component cable for it.

FYI the model of the cartridge adapter I use puts the nes game video on the top screen of the ds.

EDIT - Here's an interesting alternative for ps3 owners -

http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/08/22/how-to-play-nes-games-on-your-ps3/

It claims it can use the java code for bluray live content on a usb thumb drive. I don't have an official usb thumb drive to test. I'm hoping I can use my old iriver mp3 player.

EDIt 3 - ok it won't work on my ps3. I copied the avchd folder. It turns out I forget I could use my micro sd card and a usb adapter I have for it. I cleared it and put the avchd folder in it. Then I put the nes roms on it as the articles says. It won't load. I also did a test with just the basic folders and no roms on it. It still won't load.

I'm wondering if the latest firmware is blocking this. Perhaps there is an update for this player? I'll have to keep looking. THis is promising. If I can play them on the ps3 then all I'd need to do is buy another memory card for the usb reader.

EDIT 4 - I found something online called a gp2x. Its a portable video game system that runs on linux. It supports a great number of emulators. It also has tv out. I put a bid on one on ebay. I"m gonna max out at 70.00 I think. THats what I"d pay for a xbox plus cables and a controller and what ever. This would be intriguing. It does open source stuff and even has a usb host function. IT does it with a sd card slot too.

I'd be interested in looking for other linux consoles like this if there are any. Again not much more than a used xbox since that can be modified realitively easily.
