    Hi Guys...

    I have a Sony MiniDV DCR-HC48
For some reason now (i recently upgraded my pc) when I dump the video from my camera to the computer it gets all choppy...
the video quality seems to be the same but when I play back the video in Windows Movie Maker OR Sony Vegas 8 it looks horrible... very very choppy. I burned the vid to a home DVD and it is the same, all choppy.

    Any thoughts?

    THanks in advance,
    Dave

Give more details on what you changed in the upgrade.

It doesn't make sense, the PC can handle it, I think. :P

Is the IEEE-1394 on the motherboard? Did you install the mobo drivers?
Try capture to a different physical drive than the OS. Use WinDV to test.

I see there is a new BIOS for my Mobo... hmmm
I just installed the new video driver from the Intel site.
I might try and install the camera on another PC and see what happens.

OK I just hooked up the camera to my son's PC... it is no where near as fast as mine. I captured about 30 seconds of his MotoX race and it looks fine! Something is way wrong here.
Would the new BIOS flash help?
    Thanks

  8. the only way to capture minidv from that cam is through the firewire port. the usb is for still picture transfer or streaming 320x240 video. on the tape it's 720x480.

Yeah a lot of things don't add up here.

Seems like the new mobo hasn't been installed properly and you can't cap quality DV from USB (except rare exceptions).

On most Sony MiniDV, usb1 gets you low bit rate 352x240 CIF intended for network streaming.

IEEE-1394 (aka Firewire or ILink) gets you full 720x480i plus uncompressed PCM stereo audio with a bit for bit stream from tape to the hard drive. Result is a DV-AVI file on the hard disk.

  13. yes, like eddv says that's the way to transfer from tape. it's the little 4 pin connector on the cam marked DV. on the computer end it can either be 4pin or 6pin connector.
