Also depending on your preference you can use something like ripbot264 to convert to either mp4 or mkv. Mp4 will not be able to 5.1 on many systems like the xbox 360 - it doesn't like 5.1 aac. However I have read on another post that mp4 has recently added ac3 support so that is a promising possbility.

You can also make a mkv with it. In two pass mode you can lock the file size to under 8gb so that it will fit on the dl.

However be warned this is very time consuming. If your computer details are accurate and your using a single core 2.8ghz processor this will take a very long time.

I can rip hd-dvd and bluray with andydvd hd. I then load it into ripbot264. THe loading into ripbot takes upwords of 30 minutes in itself. Then depending on how large the bitrate and filesize it can take over 12 hours on my 2.7ghz dual core amd. Mind you I haven't found the total time it takes because I've done these before I go to bed and they finish while I'm at work the next day so I don't have a firm time frame on these encodes.

Just be prepared for a long time for conversion with any program you use especially if you only have a single core processor.

@atak_snajpera - thanks, didn't know that. My last encode for a bluray to mkv at about 8gbs was 16 hours on my 2.7ghz dual core amd. It was downsized to 1280x720p with 5.1 ac3 audio (aften). Just to give you an idea.

Unfortunately it overrites the previous log jobs so I don't know how long the hd-dvd encodes took. Though I'm sure it was roughly the same length.

BD-Rebuilder is your best bet at the moment

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=145345

It has really been designed to play blu-ray movies on a PS3 but its possible to get them to convert a blu-ray to DVD, the quality will be much better than a DVD release of the same movie, assuming its a true blu-ray movie not just some transfer from an old source and calling it a blu-ray

It will also have a good try at converting a full blu-ray DVD including all menus to DVD so you retain the menu systems, extras, the lot

But its very very CPU intensive to get the very best out of the source, so don't expect it to do it in a couple of hours, more like upto 12 hours or more depending how much work it has to do if you want the entire disk instead of movie only, but the final quality will be well worth the wait

And remember is still a beta, he's released to get response from people and make the software much more stable and better, which it already is but does now need feedback. It already is capable of a lot more than other poor offerings that claim to offer blu-ray conversiosn but go for speed rather than quality and functionaility

And, its 100% free, using free software but he would appreciate donations as he does put a lot of effort into it, the guy also wrote DVD-RB which is probably the best system for DVD-9 to DVD-5. Again quality not speed is what you get, and again can be used with 100% free software
