  2. The Pioneer 520 is a wonderful recorder but is now quite old: 2004 was a long time ago in electronic terms. Most 520s lost the ability to burn discs two years ago, and have needed repair, that yours still works at all is very lucky! Since it seems to be working until it gets to the finalization part, you might just have the common problem where older recorders become unable to burn todays 16x blank media which has a very different formula than the recorder was designed to burn back in 2004. I do not know if stores in Argentina carry Japanese-made media, but that is what you need to try first: perhaps there is a local internet dealer in Argentina who can sell you some Taiyo Yuden (TY) brand Japanese DVD-R media rated at 8x speed? Most Pioneer 520 burning problems are solved, at least temporarily, by using this slower higher-quality media. See if this works for you.

If not, then you need a new burner. The cost for Pioneer to replace the burner in a 520 is very high: it costs nearly as much to buy an entire new recorder like the 550 or 560. As an alternative, you could look for a used Pioneer DVR-107 or DVR-A07 computer burner. These can sometimes be found very affordably on eBay. If you do get one, follow the instructions given in another thread here titled "DVR-RO9-XP needed" which explains how to replace the burner in a Pioneer recorder yourself.
