My Canopus ADVC-300 has rather nice noise reduction. Better than the JVC SVHS 9911 digipure DNR.
Two questions. Should I enable both TBCs? Should I disable the JVCs noise reduction to avoid oversmoothing?
Also should I use the composite or svideo the canopus. I know with laserdiscs the composite RCA provides a better signal as the 3D y/c seperation in the Canopus is superior to any laserdisc players (svideo).

Canopus TBC exists only on paper. TBC and DNR from JVC DNR are linked together (DigiPure technology). So, both on or both off.

From a VCR which has it, you use S-video.

The ADVC-300 noise reduction looks like simple frame blending and blurring. It's nothing clever. You can do 100x better in software (but very slowly!).

 Cheers,
 David.
