    Dear all

Im sure you get posts like this everyday from newbies. I do apologise in advance.

I recently bought an LG DN798 after reading a glowing review on http://www.dvdbuyingguide.com/. It claims this player is region free, however upon purchasing from Amazon I have found my region 2 and 4 discs do not work. The player only cost me 60 bucks so Im kinda loathed to send it back, dont want the hassle.

If anyone here can hook me up with the unlock code I would be really grateful.

    Please let me know

    many thanks

    Neil

No one else does. If it was, Amazon would have listed it in this section:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=regi...n+free&x=0&y=0

But as usual this very site may provide some relief.

Don't get your hopes up. Manufacturers change hardware sometimes during production and that can break hacks that used to work in the past. Also, Hollywood has gotten to almost everybody who makes DVD players and forced them around the world to stop making models that can easily be put into multi-region mode. For example, at this time Samsung appears to not make any models anywhere in the world that can be made region free. I'll spare you my long explanation, but ultimately such action by Hollywood is self-defeating the only consumer response to it will be an increase in piracy and a decrease in sales as pirate copies will be the only ones they'll be able to play outside their region.

I wouldn't pay the premium VCT Electronics charges just to push a few buttons on the remote.

No. You can buy a Philips DVP 5990 new for that price. You can get a refurb from buy.com for $39 with free shipping. <edit>Maybe not, it looks like they're sold out now.</edit>
