Hi folks,
I was not sure if I should post this in this Thread or the Conversion Thread ... so if it needs to be moved, MOD please do so ...
I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit on it.
I have tried "FAVC 1.07" both the 32-bit and 64-bit version and it keeps crashing.
1) Crashes when I try to use it.
2) Crashes when I try to close the FAVC.
Problem #1: gives me the following error message
"Windows Command Processor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
BTW, the Windows never offers a solution or anything!!!
FAVC crashes on Muxing up I think ... since in my Working folder I do see the Video conversion portion.
Problem #2: gives me the following error message
"FAVC has stopped working. Windows is collecting more information about the problem. This might take several minutes ..."
FYI, I used to use FAVC earlier versions on my XP SP2 with no gltiches what-so-ever ... so I know for a fact it is VISTA issue or 64-bit issue ... since my buddy claims it works for him kind of in 32-bit Vista.
Q1: What causes these problems?
Q2: How can I FIX these problem?
BTW, same friend that I mentioned above ... suggested to me to change my "Bitrate" from 8000 (FAVC default) to 4000 and use QuEnc instead of Aften (FAVC default) for Audio Conversion. This combo at least gave me an output even though it does still give a warning splash screen which I bypass and ignore. At least this way the converted Video and Audio gets Muxed up.
Thanks,

FAVC works fine on my Vista32 computers. Did you install it as a administrator? There may be other programs interfering with FAVC as it is just a assembly of several programs itself, under a common GUI.
BTW, the Windows never offers a solution or anything!!!
You can eliminate some of those more useless Windows splash screens by modifying the UAC (User Account Control) with TweakUAC: http://www.tweak-uac.com/home/ The 'Quiet' setting is the safest.
Another possibility that is OS related is DEP (Data Execution Prevention) You will find the settings for it in 'Control Panels>System>System protection>Advanced>Performance settings>Data Execution Prevention' But it was also in XP, so not exclusive to Vista. -

Q1: Red ... How can I install the program as Administrator!?!?
As you mentioned the FAVC just expands to a Stand-alone Folder and that is it!!! It is not like DVD Flick or somegthing else that installs itself under X86 or something.
I have tried both the .EXE and 7Z formats the Vista 64-bit versions and they expand into the FAVC folder which I then moved them under a folder called C:\Program Z-Files\Z DVD Progs\FAVC\... and execute it from there.
Q2: Red ... using UAC Tweak ... that deos not mean I am disabling the Function ... right? Because folks recommend against disabling UAC function.
Q3: Red ... under DEP (Data Execution Prevention) ... do I disable it or what Option do I choose!?!?
Thanks again,

1> To install or run a program as a administrator: R click on the program and select: Run as Administrator. You want to do this with most programs you install, though many programs will install fine without it.
2> UAC in 'Quiet" mode will just get rid of those annoying 'Do you really want to do this' type warnings. (Because you ignore them anyway, like most of us do.) You will still be protected. I wouldn't advise turning UAC off completely unless you understand the implications.
Having a good antivirus program, anti-trojan programs should protect you. I use Avast, SpyBot S&D, Spyware Blaster. Then having a decent firewall helps a lot. Vista's firewall is non-functional by default for outgoing packets. That let's malware 'Phone home' with no protection. I use Comodo. It's a bit invasive, especially at first, but it's saved me quite a few times.
3> DEP is a bit more complex. I've rarely had it cause problems, so I don't have to modify it most times. A very few programs can cause problems with it, but you can select to ignore them. Usually a DEP problem will be reported clearly by Windows, so it's easy to tell if that's a problem.
If you didn't install the program as a administrator, I would uninstall it and re-install as a administrator. If that doesn't help, then there may be a conflict with some other software.
Also make sure the other components are installed: Requires Microsoft's .NET framework v2 and at least v2.57 of Avisynth. .NET is already on Vista, but make sure Avisynth 2.57 is properly installed.
You can also visit the Doom9 forum and see the whole thread on the program. The author is also there: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=106677 -
I think you caused the problem when you moved it to
C:/program files some programs can't be put there. Try
cutting it from C:/Program Files and pasting it to my Documents
or some other folder than try to run it again. -
Hi folks,
@ fastman ... for a minute I thought you might have had something there ... and I even tried it out ... moved my FAVC folder to my doc ... crashed city even in a bigger way.
@ Redwudz ... I have tried run as Admin and even in XP Compatibiltiy mode ... nothing.
However, a net buddy from a different forum suggested to use no more than 4000 as my Bitrate and use QuEnc instead of Aften for Audio conversion ... and guess what at least with this set-up ... I get thru even the Muxing phase and I do get an output ... BUT, I still get Pop-up "Command thingy stopped" and another Pop-up ... as long I keep clicking and closign the nags Faults ... I gte thru.
I really DO NOT need FAVC ... just would have liked it to work since it was my bullet-proof method in XP ... actually worked better than DVD Flick for me. Where now DVD Flick is king in Vista for me.
BTW, I have been trying to raise MR_Odwin on Doom9 ... but no luck ... I wonder if the guy is even around!
Thanks for all of your help guys.

Hi folks,
I don't know what in the world I just did to my laptop that FAVC 1.07 64-bit works in my Vista Home Premium 64-bit perfectly.
The only thing that I did today was download the called for Windows update ... but looking over the list I did not see anything that would un-jinks the FAVC program ... so, I am puzzled ... but what the heck I ain't looking the gift-horse in the mouth ...
Now I also upgraded my Comodo Firewall and my Antivirus stuff. I am not sure if that helped.
I ran the "FAVC 1.07 (x64)" as is ... not even with Admin Rights or in XP Compatibility mode ... and I even used 8000 Bitrate and Aften as my Sound Encoder and it worked "PERFECTLY".
I wanted to share this info with folks that might have had similar problem as mine ... FAVC not working for no apparent reason!
Thanks,

Good to know you got it working. Sometimes computer operations are a mystery.
