  2. Well, when you compress the data by 200 times, it will not look the same :)

  3. You will have to forgive my ingnorance..is MPG a lower quality than AVI?....these are 26 min AVis...the file size actually increass after conversion...are you saying image quality is always lost when converting from Avi to MPG even if th file size increases? Thanks.

  4. Your AVI file is probably compressed in DivX which has better compression that MPEG. That's probably why the file has gotten bigger.

Every time you compress with MPEG, you will get loss of quality (e.g., if you re-JPEG a JPEG image the quality will worsen too won't it?)

  5. Thanks for the help I believe it is a divx AVi so that explains it..with that being the case i have another question. The whole reason i was converting to MPEG was to make a vcd to play on my DVD player...is there a way to go from DIVX to VCD without loss of quality?

  6. Probably not. Remember, re-JPEGing a JPEG.

There are ways to help the video to look "pleasing" though such as noise reduction, etc.

I suggest that you have a look at the conversion guides here and at doom9.net for some more info and tips.

  7. I edited a "movie"(Highlights of my son's football games) on DVDit. The files were straight from my video camcorder(AVI). I want to burn onto a DVD-R. DVDit says Windows Media and Quick Time are not supported in my edition of DVDit. Is there a simple burning program where I can take my AVI Football Movie Highlights and put them on a DVD-r disk? What about MyDVD? Do I need to change to lower quality Mpeg2?

Thanks for any help from a dad trying to make DVD's for my son.
