Sounds like an overlay problem. Try se the tv connection to your primary monitorand see if you see any difference.

You might describe 'just strange' a bit better. Overlay problems usually result in a black screen on the playback device. If you get a green mottled screen or similar, that may be a codec problem.
With about any player, you can increase the volume.... What format are you having problems with? -
I could see the small picture, but when I tried to make it full screen then I got the black screen on my tv....

Try this, it's not a fix, just a diagnostic: Go to Control Panel>Displays>Advanced>Troubleshoot' and move the slider down to 1/4 - 1/3 and see if that helps. If so, it's definitely a overlay/hardware acceleration problem. The cure is usually in the video card adjustments. Every card is different, so you may want to consult the video card manual or look to the manufacturers website or forum.
