Just finished watching - Is this the saddest film ever?
Or is there one even more so?
I thought it was sadder than Old Yeller, or Where The Red Fern Grows.
Sorry, can't think of any foreign films - hardly ever watch them.

Never seen it. Looked stupid....
A.I. was depressing as hell.
Schindler's List & Life is Beautiful -- if those movies don't jerk a tear from you, you're ******* dead inside. Or a Nazi..."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

Boring as hell? Not really... A little slow but a good story.
No bare titties, no AK-47s, nothing blown up, no car chases. It is a bit of a chick flick but I'm a sucker for movies based on fact. -

Once you start ascribing human emotion and behaviour upon animals, it ceases being a factual document, and becomes a fantasy with a definite perspective. From that point on the images must be manipulated to preserve the illusion of the constructed narrative. I'm not sure which was worse, the banal narration from Morgan Freeman for the US release, or the silly character voices of the French version. There is no denying the imagery is powerful, but it's credibility is low.

i watched it with the sound off

With no sound the dancing wouldn't have made much sense.
er... sorry... that was Happy Feet... -
The worst part was that I was watching it with a bunch of people and in the end everybody was crying.... "Oh my God, this movie has given us a message, we should always fight and never give up" (...never surrender... oh... that was another movie
)
And I was like.... hum... So, if you didn't watch the movie you would have never known that you had to do that.... wow, what a masterpiece!!!1f U c4n r34d 7h1s, U r34lly n33d 2 g3t l41d!!! -

I actually liked the Pursuit of Happyness, and it was based off of a true story, and there was even an interview with real life guy himself included in the movie...yes, it was depressing as hell, but it just goes to show what some people can and cannot survive with enough will power. I truly wonder what kind of predicament I will be in myself here pretty soon, and I hate to think that with two little boys, one who is one, and the other who is two, and a wife, all of whom rely upon me to support them, would do in that same exact predicament. I just recently became unemployed, and as such I have no safety net or back account to cushion the fall of rental payments...I am scared as hell, and this movie just did not help matters at all for my wife...

Ok Supreme2K, you officially suck!
With the exception of movie # 1 and 3 (neither of which have I seen), I loved all of those movies, just because they were good movies, and man, that just blows all my warm and fuzzy feelings to....wait a sec, sorry...I don't really have any feelings...all is well, carry on!
lol
Seriously though, Rudy, Lean on Me, Good Morning Viet Nam?! GREAT FRIKKIN MOVIES!!!
I grew up when those movies had first come out, and I finally saw them all on cable, and man! I was over whelmed...
Robin Williams is a great actor and comedian, always has been, always will be, and when Good Morning Vietnam first came out you cannot tell me that you did not think that the movie was awesome too...
Bottom line? People like to pick on movies because they are not 100 % reality. Well, people really do not want to know reality because if they did they would probably kill themselves.
People want to displace reality, that is why we watch movies, read books, get into RPGs and LARPs, alcohol and drugs, what ever...it is an escape for them...a sad one, but an escape none the less...that is what Hollywood wants from us, that particular kind of displacement, where we will go see the movie in the theater because of all the really cool special effects, the high body count, the really cool cars and hot babes, and we frivolously spend our hard earned money on concessions that we could have made better at our home for a fraction of the cost...

I am reading William Goldman's "What lie did I tell : Further adventures in the screen trade". It is equal parts autobiography of the latter half of his screen-writing career, and screen-writing guide book. He talks about making films from true stories, and says several times - "real life doesn't film well". And that is probably true. What seems heroic if faced with it in reality, seems mundane and small in the over-blown world of movies. And I have no problem with that. Make it bigger. Make it so it films well - God knows I don't want to watch a boring film.
But don't tell me it is a true story. And don't use the Hollywood cop out phrase - Based on a True Story. It is either a true story, in which case stick to the bloody facts and live with the fact that the hero won't be Bruce Willis, or it is made up.
Movies exist in their own reality. Trouble is, once you put the words "True Story" near a movie, a large portion of the great unwashed actually believe it is a true story, no matter how much of it is made up.
If people weren't so stupid, it wouldn't matter. But they are, so it does.Read my blog here.
