No, not really; however, it seems like some of their knowledge would be useful to understanding the audio facilities of Vegas (6.0). The 300+ page manual provided with the product barely scratches the surface. I have one book on Vegas that I like, which covers audio, but not to any depth. I understand there may be a book or books by Douglas Spotted Eagle that may provide some deeper insight. Are there other books that delve into this subject, not necessarily from the point of view of Vegas.
Someone pointed me to the SAE (Soc. Audio Engr.) publications. Does anyone have a particular pub there that might be useful for beginners?
Perhaps there are tutorials on the subject? Free or otherwise. Other sources?
In any case, I've managed to leverage myself into some reasonable position to do simple things. There's at least one Wiki that's been helpful.

What is you application? DVD encoding?
There are many sub-specialties in audio. Most people master only a few.
Vegas was built over Sound-Forge. Pro Sound-Forge extends Vegas features and can be integrated into Vegas. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/soundforgefamily.asp
There are several books on Sound Forge

Thanks for the reply. I'll look at some of the links you provided.
I'm pretty much an amateur at video, but use Vegas and my camcorder for community and personal projects. It's a hobby, and not something I do a lot. I seem to do about one large project a year, an hour video, that require a lot of effort. I'll do a few maybe 30-60 minutes that require minimal effort, a few titles, re-arranging segment, cleaning up mistakes, editing, add a bit of music, etc. Maybe 1/2 dozen 3-5 minute efforts of special interest, Christmas, minor family, nature events.
I'd just like to get a better grip on some of the audio plug-ins in Vegas and maybe Audacity. They are not particularly well explained, but they are unlikely have been created in a vacuum. I would think to think someone or some organization can give insight into them. The wiki I mentioned is a good start on compression. Frankly, I don't think it's all that complicated, but the info seems fractured. -
If you want to understand the audio features in Vegas, they are a subset of features in Sound Forge so I'd suggest you get one of those books at Amazon. You can go further with loops and sampling with the Acid program.

Yes, I have a simple version of Sound Forge. I take it you are suggesting there are books specific to it on Amazon? That is, search for titles with SF.
