Just trying to install everything I use regularly on a new virtual machine, and I'm struggling to get DirectShow to work. Videos play fine in Media Player / Media Player Classic, but avisynth's "DirectShowSource" is returning an empty video and my own local app that uses DirectShow to get the frame rate of a video is failing with the DXSDK error message "the pins are not connected".

I've reinstalled DirectX 9.0c, I have ffdshow beta 6 (also tried 20041012) and have also tried xvid 1.1.2. Avisynth gets a video with width=0; my own code fails to read the frame rate from the file but is able to determine how long it is.

I've reregistered the standard filters (using DirectShow Filter Manager) in case it was a problem with the DirectShow base installation.

The file I'm testing with is encoded with 'xvid' as its fourcc.

Anyone got any suggestions of things to look for?

More info: GraphEdit is able to build a graph using ffdshow. Really not sure what's going on here, but it's pretty weird. Anyone got any clues?

    Gotcha.

It's cause I didn't have a sound card installed. Set one up, and everything worked fine. :)
