    Some background...

Got to (almost, hence this topic...) figure out why I couldn't figure out why some of my DVD to divx just wouldn't work. Pretty sure is was due to multi-angles being used on the disk. For instance, when there's a theatrical version on one angle and the extended/director's cut on the other angle.

    - Using DVD Decrypter, with anydvd in the background, I made two seperate folder structures - one for each angle.
    - Used VOBMERGE to create a single VOB of the main movie.
    - Used VDubMod crop with nulltransform and convert to divx.

Up to here, this seems to be working terrific for me.

Now the problem, when I play back the end result using WMP or MPC, the movie plays at a stepped up rate like I've hit fast forward on it. This is the same for both conversions. Appears the video/audio are in sync and the total length of the movie seems to be correct.

Any ideas? Just haven't run into this one before....
    Have a good one,

Any chance it could be doing something like playing at 30fps instead of 23fps? If so, how would I fix that?

Pretty sure I figured out the original fast playing video issue. When I connected all the VOBs together with VOBMERGE, I mistakingly included the main menu and it kept the 29.97fps instead of 23fps for the movie. Not 100% as this is just a guess but it went away after rebuilding the merged VOB without the main menu. Even setting the mark-in in vdub (unless I just didn't set it late enough) didn't fix it.

Now my problem is audio sync. Though the individual VOBs and the merged VOB play in complete sync, any conversion throws it off. Pretty sure something is going on in the individual VOBs because when I convert them to individual MPGs, there an ever so slight, probably a 1/4 second or so delay in each of them.

With my new 5990 I'm pretty sure I can play the merged VOB directly without having to go to divx. Then again, its all been a pretty fun excercise, which is why I do all this in the first place. Maybe some day I'll have it figured out and revisit but for now I'll consider it 'solved'.
