with a 300 watt psu?. It is a 3+ year old pc. Either the 256mb or 512mb version?

The 300W PS may be a problem. E-Machine power supplies have a bad reptutation for failure. I would replace the PS with a name brand PS, 400W should be plenty. Hopefully, the PS is standard size.
That card doesn't appear to have a external power supply hookup, so I'm assuming it doesn't draw as much power as some newer cards with that hookup.
If you use the present PS, there is a higher risk of failure and that could take the MB, CPU and drives with it if it dies.Not worth that risk, IMO.
