default settings for filters/ subtitle font and text encoding

I am trying to add a sub format file to a divix movie. I have had success before. Lately it hasn't worked. Unfortunately I think I have changed my "subtitle font" and "text encoding" to wrong settings. Currently they are set at "Arial" and "ISO 8859-1". What should the default settings be for English US subtitles ?

ffmpegX doesn't store preferences. It is pretty hard to change to wrong settings, that a relaunch wouldn't fix.
For US English subtitles, the issue isn't in "subtitle font" or "text encoding". These settings have to be changed for non-Latin languages with 'special' characters. Arial is fine for Western languages. The font contains all common use characters in US English, and a few more. ISO 8859-1 is the preferred and most common text encoding for text based subtitle files for western languages.

Perhaps your subtitle file isn't text based, but image based, like VobSub (.idx + .sub file pair). The presentation of image based subtitle files can not be modified by selecting a font and text encoding.

If your sub file is indeed image based, then try to get a SubRip (.srt) subtitle file for that divx movie from a subtitle search site (1) (2).
