  1. I'm entirely PC based. I'm not looking to go professional but I need a program that allows me to put at least 3 tracks of video ... then select and cut and paste ... from the tracks for final product. I'm using 3-5 cameras at different angles for video/DVD instruction for my classroom.

Is Vegas Pro what I need? Is there something more suitable for an amateur?

I know. FinalCut is the primo program. As I said, what's the best PC way to go? Cyberlink PowerDirector I'm using now is fine but I can only use ONE track of video.

Adobe Premiere Pro has a multi-camera view that might suit you. You can also have up to 99 tracks of video.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

Vegas Pro also does multi-camera editing and has unlimited tracks (well, RAM limited only) and is, for my money, far more stable than Premiere and has far better audio capabilities.

Newer versions of Premiere have been more stable than they were in the past, but Vegas still blows it out of the water in that regard. Vegas' interface is also somewhat more intuitive and easier to learn and use than Premiere's, IMHO, so I use it for all of my editing at home. We're an Adobe shop at work so I'm kind of forced to use it there, although I don't really mind it.

With the new CS4 suite you can pick up Premiere for a song, but that's assuming you're a general multimedia guy like myself and can get any use whatsoever out of the other products like Flash and Dreamweaver.

Sounds as if Vegas will definitely do the trick for your purposes, though.
