First of all, thank you for reading my topic.
This camcorder is supposed to record HD video, take pictures, etc.
This it does fine.
Here are the specs:
http://www.insignia-products.com/pc-384-52-insignia-50mp-high-definition-digital-camco...cd-screen.aspx
However, I want to use this as a video playback device. On the page it states that videos are recorded in MPEG4 (H.264) in AVI wrapper.
Here are what it actually records in:
Resolution: 1280 x 720 or 640 x 480
Container: AVI
Video: H264
Frame Rate: 30 FPS
Audio: MS ADPCM
Here's what it can do:
Resolution: Any? Even widescreen videos work.
Container: AVI only. Also name must be CLIP0001.AVI, CLIP00002.AVI, etc. sequentially
Video: XVID, DIVX - when I convert to H264 myself, it won't play anything back.
Frame Rate: 30 FPS only, even if you set it as 25 or 29.976, etc. it will play it back at 30
Audio: MP3 even MP2. I couldn't get MS ADPCM to work when I converted to it.
Folder: [Drive Letter]:\DCIM\200MOVIE
When I try putting it into H264, MS ADPCM 30 FPS video, the unit shuts down.
I tried using SUPER and a bunch of other converters, taking a one minute clip and converting it to a multitude of formats.
The problem is that after about 20 seconds the screen turns green in patches and wont go away. The audio works fine when converted to 30 FPS.
I even checked the output videos from the camera using vlc, and gspot. They are what they say they are.
I just want to be able to watch House on the go.
If you can help in anyway, that would be great. Let me know if you need more information.

	Did you ask Insigna?

There are many ways they can prevent you from doing this.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Insignia is Best Buy's house brand. The camera could be made by anyone and I doubt Best Buy requires them to provide much support, other than a working machine.Originally Posted by edDV

bucsboy, they sell this as a camcorder and I doubt you are going to get the video playback performance you want.

It would be logical to ask first (channeling Spock). Insignia does have a support number even if they are a virtual company.Originally Posted by festmaster
