    Hi.
I have tryed to look around in this forum to see if this topic is covered elsevere, I didnt find.

I have a JCV GY HD100 camera. I like the pictures it produces, but when I look for tutorials and litterature discriping how to use the camera I only get the basic information like iris, gain, ND filder ..etc.

The thing that confuses me is that the camera sometimes makes mutch better picture, spesialy color if I put it on full automatic then if I adjust the settings my selfe. (just sometimes)
And sometimes Im not able to recreate the same good quality color picture that the camera makes when I put it on automatic. I just dont know what the camera is doing in that particular situation.
I trye to adjust iris, gain, shutter ..etc, but I cant fint the settings the camera finds.

Do I have to adjust gain and rotation on every color seperate? and do I have to do this on a regular basis when I film?
And general color gain, detailes, knee ... whatever, there are alot of spisific settings to fundel with.

    So this question is twofolded.
    1. Do I have to ajust this settings all the time when I film?
    2. Where do I find tutorials or information how to go about adjusting this things corectly.

Auto settings attempt an optimal setting for current conditions.

Pros set lighting and camera settings for each scene. They use a calibrated monitor rather than the viewfinder for quality judgement. You should consider a camcorder/film class.

    thanks ed/DV.
I will consider a recorderclass. At the moment its not posible other then online-education.
Calibrated monitor? When I can I use Adobe - OnLocation, would that help?
I meen, there are this color-things ... scanners, vectorscope ...etc.
I supose they tell me what to ajust the camera to? I meen what spesific things I should adjust at a given situation?
I understand ofcorse that choice and taste would be part of it, after knowing the camera very well.
But if this colormonitors and vectorscope and what have you, if they are the things I need to learn to use, surly there is litterature and tutorials?

Yes in addition to eyeballing a monitor they also use waveform monitors and vectorscopes to maintain legal broadcast levels. This too is covered in a broadcast engineering class.

On-Location may help but you need basic training to understand it's use. Most of this requires on the job training and is poorly documented.

For multi-camera shoots, camera controls are remote controlled by a "colorist" operator whose job is to match cameras prior to and during the shoot.
