Hi,
Very new to all of this and would like to know if there is a tool that will quickly view a movie clip and determine what file type it is. Then I would like to be able to encode and burn a DVD that will play on my home DVD player.
Any help would be appreciated.

GSpot and MediaInfo can tell you the file type and codecs used. ConvertxToDvd is a simple program for beginners.
