I have a Pioneer DVR-213NP SATA-300 DVD burner in my system that's not burning anything. When I put a blank cd or dvd into the drive it takes about 10 minutes for the system to recognize there is a blank cd/dvd in the drive. If I don't wait 10 minutes and try to open a burning program such as Nero it takes 5 minutes for the program to come up. Then after it comes up when I choose an option it may take 5 minutes to go to the next step or the program will stop responding.

I have a theory about the issue, I think there is something wrong with the SATA burner and me trying to burn data to it from a PATA HDD. What do ya'll think? Thanks for any input

In my opinion I have a really good system:
    Windows Vista Ultimate 64
    AMD X2 64 6000+
    4GB DDR3
    2 PATA HDDS = 300 GB & 120 GB
    ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE
BFG 8800 GTS OC 512 MB ePCI

Yes, it has worked before but it has been about 3 or more months since I last used it. I tried to remember what I changed before the issue occured but nothing comes to mind.

You could try updating your Nvidia chipset controller since your mobo uses Nvidia chipset. Have you tried changing the SATA cable?
BTW this needs to be moved to the DVD REWRITER section.

I haven't tried updating my controller yet I could try that. However, I don't think it is a cable issue. I can put a dvd or cd in the drive and it reads just fine. BIOS as well as windows recognizes it just fine so it's not gonna be an issue with the cable.
