  1. Okay, so I use WMM as a basis software for my video editing - overall, I use Sony Vegas.

Anyway, I have all my imported clips in WMM from The Worst Witch to Driving Lessons, Ballet Shoes to All the Harry Potter films and lots more.

So I go to import High School Musical 1, it imports, shows up, everything is fine.
So I close the program, do something else then later want to use the clips so I open it up and it's gone, it's not there yet everything else is.

I've done this TWICE now, once yesterday and once today.

Please, please help if you can, it'll be appreciated.

    I have XP.

(By the way, I hope this place is the right forum! I'm ever so sorry if it isn't..)

Why are you using WMM to convert movies ?
What format are the movies in (source) ?
What format are you converting them to ?
Why use WMM when you have Vegas available to you ?

  3. I'm not converting anything...I just import them into WMM and use that as a basis. My only problem is the latest import isn't showing up, as though I never did import it.

    A basis for what ?

I don't understand the process you are undertaking, however the source could be the problem. So what is the source ? VOB ? AVI (divx/xvid) ?

  5. I don't understand what you're asking...

I don't see how my switch between WMM and Vegas has got anything to do with this, it's not important.

The film I imported was .avi like all of the others, but it's just not showing up in the collections folder and I want to know why.

You know in WMM, you import film and it shows up in the collections folder? And then it stays there? Well, my HSM one isn't doing that, it isn't showing up after i've imported it twice.

And it may be because the type of AVI isn't one that WMM likes. WMM works with only a narrow group of video types (codecs), which is one of the reasons it isn't a great tool to work with. If we understood your process, and what you were trying to achieve, we might be able to recommend tools that are better suited.

  7. I prefer the way WMM lets you have a collections folder to keep everything in, I work with too many fandoms and clips to just use Sony Vegas.

Guns1inger asked about the source format. He means, how did you capture them to your PC. For example, if the source is DVD, they would be VOB video files. We can't help if we don't know the source.

And we WON'T help if this involves illegal downloads and copyright infringement. I'm not sure what "working with fandoms" means in terms of your video project, but a red flag pops up in my brain.

  9. Do you even know what a fandom is? A fandom is just something a group of fans support.

Anyway, a friend suggested I check with the codecs so i'm going to try that way.

My concern was about distribution of copyrighted video clips to a group -- not just making a personal safety copy of a video you own. Nor was I talking about mass distribution of homemade fan films and spoofs, which is perfectly legal and lots of fun. But you had mentioned Harry Potter and High School Musical, among others. All I was trying to say was that you should not be sending out clips from those copyrighted movies to groups of people.

So...yes I know what a fandom is. Do you know what copyright is?

Anyway, you never answered the question about your source video format (i.e.: vob, avi, flv, mov, mpg, etc), so it is difficult to provide technical assistance to you until you do.

  11. I'm not sending these films to anyone, that would serve me no purpose.

Thankyou, but I do not need any more help as i'm going to try what my friend suggested.
