Well, I think Popcorn Hour is exactly what I am looking for to play movies from my NAS. Would love to get some feedback from actual users before buying. Does anyone have any screenshots of the gui?

Thanks again...I am new to this forum and found it extremely helpful.

Disclaimer - I do NOT own Popcorn Hour or the iStar player.

Popcorn Hour and the US made iStar player use the same Sigma Designs chip to decode video. You should expect similar results from each. Here is a review of iStar that will give you an idea of what it does/does not support.

    (WARNING - PDF file)

Playback of DTS video in any container may be problematic. Some MKVs may not play well, depending on how they were made. But generally speaking people like the player.

AppleTV should have done something like this...
I hate VHS. I always did.

Frankly, if AppleTV would play native .vob, that would clearly have been my choice. There are a few hacks out there that "get" an AppleTV to play .vob, but I don't believe it has the nice interface, etc...If Popcorn Hour works as is advertised, that is exactly what I am looking for.

By the way, does Popcorn Hour have cover art that you navigate or a file manager?
