I got to check if the one near me is going out.......
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I can't even remember the last time I was in the one near me. Prices were always too high and salespeople were always too pushy every time I went there, so I stopped going.

These are sad times, and particulary for stores. I was sadden by CompUSA closure--they were a great bi-weekly getaways for me and keeping up with the latest in electronics and gadgets. Most of my equipment were from there.
Now, it seems that CC is heading that way. I hope now. I mean. I was away for just about a year without actually going into any electronic stores--all of them. Then, recently, about a month ago, I finally stopped in CC, and I couldn't believe how empty it was, and as I began walking down the isles a salesman would interup my browsing.."if you need anything help, just call", or "...and my name is.." etc. I must have been asked that at least four or five times by different salesmen. I know. I know its more than likely that they are being instructed to *offer* assistant at any opportunity. Well, I'm not complaining, because I know how it is these days with business and whats going on in the world, etc. And while I was in one fo the isles (audio section) I couldn't help overhearing a salesmen try his utmost to keep a customer (lets just say) happy. But I listened with understanding and compassion, realizing how touch it is in the business and keeping your job and trying to make the store manager happy, etc.
CC was another store where I made many of purchases. Up to a year ago, I made regular purchases of DVD media, though I did purchase other things like capture cards, digital camera, and so on, type gizmos. So they have been my sort of replacement to CompUSA.
Bestbuy was right around the corner, too, though I rarely stopped in there. Now-a-days, I do more stopping in there then CC. I don't know. I think the prices are about the same, I think. I made a few purchases over the last few weekends. There were sales and I was in the area at the time, I guess.
But its not just electronic stores. It looks like office supply stores are suffering too. Staples and Office Max are not crowded. I can't see any competing between these two stores, though Staples (in my area) used to be crowded a lot, though not any more at the moment. Office Max was always empty. But it seemed they somehow were doing ok, because they never closed, as far as I know. But since they and many other stores are all in the same general area, I have the opportunity to see them all and how they are all doing. Anyway. I did make a few purchases in Office Max these past two weeks. I mainly shopped at OM because they used have a lot of capture cards back in the Dazzle* days. They use to have all the HDD's, and capturec cards like the famous ATI, Hauppauge, Diamond, and Dazzle* cards, and more. And I loved stopping in every once in a while to compare prices. In fact, that's where I got my Dazzle* DVC. Staples, yeah, I pick up a few $$ 's worth there, too.
And then there are book stores. B. Dalton is not as crowded as it uses to be. Barnes & Nobles, too, though they were a bit more crowed then BD were. Plus, they let read and sip coffee, though not that I do. I can't do that unless I'm home in my cozy comfy chair..you know how it goes.
Then you have Wal-Mart vs. K-Mart. Well, obviously k-mart is not doing so well, but they aren't suffering badly. The store just down the street from me (GOD bless them, and me, too..for being lucky-ly close) seems to be doing ok. Yeah, its not as crowded and cluttered by shoppers like wal-mart is, but neither are they a ghost town, true that. And if I want something that I could prob get just a few dollars cheaper at wal-mart, I know better..its a 20 minute ride to them, gas and car-ware must be considered..and with a bit of self control, I save a few dollars either way by just tip-toe-ing to k-mart, instead.
While I was visiting a gallery mall last weekend that I hadn't been to in several years, I was disturbed by the dismanteling of one of the Radio Shack stores. It was a bit depressing to see, and I refused to watch, and walked away. RS is dear to me because that is a store I shopped at almost all my life, since the very early 70's. I got my first elecontronic "digital" (red LED) calculator for $80 bucks (a huge ordeal back in those days as a child) and I had to work hard for it using my $1.50 weekly allowence, then. Honestly, I can't recall ever finishing paying for it, thanks to my parents. However, I had it for a good several years before it got stollen.
Home Depot seems to be doing well. I ran down that way several times, even stopped in, and they are just like wal-mart..wall-to-wall shoppers. Some good memories there, too. But I won't go on about those. Anyways.
Lots of sad stuff going on these days. Well, its too depressing now, so I'm going to stop here
