Equipt was a brand new Microsoft bundle of Home/Student Office & OneCare Internet Security, offered through Circuit City here in the US.
Microsoft today announced they are to be discontinued, within a PR release touting the new free anti-malware Morro.

It'll be interesting to see how many jobs are shed in the process...

You may be reading too much into that. Equipt probably didn't sell all that well. How many people do you know who are willing to pay for security add-ons? Plus Open Office is free and for non-business use it can satisfy the Office needs of the vast majority of users. Add to that the fact that Circuit City is in deep financial trouble (some industry people do not think they will survive and reorganizing is only postponing the inevitable) maybe Microsoft just pulled the plug on an offering nobody wants that was being sold by an incompetent partner.

  3. MS makes most of its money on its server OSes, Office in the corporate environment and other non-Windows related stuff.
