I need a live HD video stream through firewire to do realtime capture to Adobe OnLocation. I currently have a SR11 and it doesn't have firewire. I need firewire, not HDMI, not usb. I already have that and it doesn't meet my needs (you can't monitor camcorder lcd screen operations like record button and playback menus when the 3.5" lcd is on a jib 20' in the air, just one example)

I just went to the store with my laptop and the canon hv30 worked like a champ into my pc with OnLocation in mpeg2 and mt2s format, and the pc cpu didn't get strained.

We tried the jvc's gz-hd5 and hd6, but couldn't get it to work. The menu had ilink(dub) which is a bad sign for what I am trying to do. I prefer the jvc because I would rather have a small hard drive, but we couldn't get any feed to my pc, live or playback. The drivers were good. The pc recognized the jvc camera, but no live feed. To make matters worse, we were going to call tech support, but couldn't find a phone number. The guys at Wolf do a good job, but there is nothing like a B&H around here. I also called B&H and everybody love the hv30. I read a bunch on the forums, but I would still like hard drive on the camera.


So the question is . . Can you get a live feed (not a playback, not dub) through firewire on a jvc gz-hd5,6,7? If so, what were your menu settings so I can go back to the store and try it out. 1440x1080 is ok, but 740x480 doesn't count (I already have that with my numerous SD tape camcorders).

I have learned that tech specs don't always tell the whole story. After spending thousands, I want to see it work before I spend more money.
