I suppose this is what I get for wanting to go "by the book" instead of just burning a DVD with ImgBurn to send to the plant. After selecting "automatic" for layer break didn't work (see my previous post), I reverted everything, retranscoded and selected Manual this time. Well, when it came time to master to DLT, I get this message:

"the chosen layer break does not satisfy dual layer requirements. To fix this either set a new layer break manually or choose to set the layer break automatically"

    1) I never got the opportunity to CHOOSE a layer break.
    2) Encore gives me NO facility to "set a new layer break manually" (it didn't even ask me to set the first one!)
    3) When I rebuilt after choosing automatic, the same error pops up.

    So now what?

Ah, the ongoing Mike/DLT saga.... I really don't know what's going on with Adobe. It's like they're turning into Nero, trying to do too much and messing up what was once a good thing. The layer-break issue is an ongoing problem with Encore, and since more people burn to discs, I think Adobe does minimal support for DLT. (Those bastards!) I would really harass the Adobe support folks, if I were you.

DVD authors with flexible budgets can use Encore or other authoring software to author the program to a harddrive folder, then use Gear software to handle the DLT master (http://www.gearsoftware.com/howtoguides/dvdvideotodlt.cfm) -- but that's an expenditure of an additional $400-$500.

Let's hope a less-expensive solution will show up in this thread soon.

  5. Apps like Gear and DVD AfterEdit are a MUST if you pre-master for replication. Glad you fixed the problem.
