Not really. This forum is good if you can't find any forum that directly relates to what you want to do. You could also do a all forum search for ' Karaoke ' to find other posts that discuss it.

It also helps to state your problem clearly in the title. Something like 'Help on editing my Karaoke songs on cd' or similar. You can also edit your title in this post if you like.

I recall a few posts on Karaoke that may help. Are you wanting to edit the video or audio in the files? You can check the video/audio format of the files with Gspot or MediaInfo. Then chose a video editor or a audio editor that may work for you from our 'Tools' section.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks for the info. I operate the sound system that uses Karaoke with a projector and mixer. I would like to be able to edit the video(lyrics) as well as the music. I would like to be able to add a chorus over and over to a song or even change the amount of verses a song has for example.Just some extra info about the system It is a Behringer 16 channel powered mixer with a VocoPro Karaoke player. We have a Viewsonic xga projector and screen. I also have an HP laptop hooked up as well

  4. Raemel,

If you had managed to have your Karaoke CD+G files (individual song plus lyrics) ripped from the karaoke disks (that you bought), then there is a way. And it is quite time-consuming, even for one song.

    (A) Software such as Power GD+G Burner (www.powerkaraoke.com) can rip some of the older karaoke CD disks (don't know about karaoke DVD disks, and some new karaoke CD disks from SoundChoice, for example, cannot be ripped onto a computer). Once ripped, you could end up to have a .bin file for every song you ripped on your hard-drive.

    (B) You need to convert your .bin into 2 files (named as CD+G files). You can find Tools to do it. I use a tool called Mp3+G Toolz to convert files from one format to another. To find this tool, please Google it. It should be free. I mean, free, not cracked.

    (C) Once you have converted one karaoke song file into CD+G format, you have 2 files for each song:
    - cdg file (ie. xxxxxx.cdg) This has the display of the lyrics of your song, plus the title track, the end
credits, etc. as released by the manufacturer of the karaoke disk.
    - mp3 file (i.e. xxxxxx.mp3) This has your tunes for the song. You can play this file in any mp3 player,
and there is no vocal, except for the background chorus, etc. as released by the
manuufacturer of the karaoke disk. The quality of the song itself and the background
singing of this mp3 file vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, even for the same
    song.

    (D) Since you wanted to add some more 'chorus' type background singing on your tune (the mp3 file), you need your own software to do this. I cannot recommend anything. Maybe you have your own way. And, for some of my favorite songs if I cannot have those mp3 tracks, I pay approx. $100 per song to a professional service to do the mp3 track for me, as if they are completely new tracks. Currently, I have a few being done. This is just one of my ways. And I have been using this kind of service in the past 2 years, although not exclusively, to make my own karaoke files since the songs I want are not commercially available in karaoke format, even though the songs may be very popular in the 70's and 80's, none of the manufacturers had released them as karaoke, for various reasons (licensing being one of them. For me, I am not selling or lending any of my work to anyone. They are all for very private use only).

    (E) You should acknowledge the fact that for a karaoke track to be singable, the mp3 track and the cdg track have to be completely synchronized for every karaoke song. You change one, you may have to change the other because the timing of the song (in the mp3 track) could be changed if you add or remove anything from that track, or even use software to open the track and save it, because as you save your track, extra length (even though they are completely silent - no sing, nothing!!!) in the beginning could be added to your file by the software, then the mp3 track and the cdg track would be out-of-sync (since both of them are played at the time time by your karaoke machine, or whatever you use for karaoke). You would hope that they are still in sync. Try to use karaoke software to play these two file to determine if you need the following step. You have a 5% success rate if you edited your CDG track as you said. Cross your fingers now. If you discover that just extra 'silent' length had been added to your original track after your background chorus type addition, you can trim that portion off by various type of software (a few are free - find them in the videohelp site or the forums).

    (F) As a result of the various premises as discussed in point (E), that the tracks are not in sync, you will need a 'karaoke builder software' to re-edit your cdg track. There are 2 or 3 useable ones in the market. I have been using a software called Karaoke Builder Studio for a while, and I like it because of its flexibility (KBS - I call it, please google the long name if you want to find and purchase it - not as much as $100 though). Once you are at this stage of your task, you cannot use the cdg file that came originally from the original karaoke rip. You better get your lyrics ready because the software will need a .txt file of it. Now, you are basically on your own to finish your own karaoke track. I would say, if you are a good musician, it helps when creating the karaoke tracks by yourself. You should at least know the song VERY WELL, beat by beat, before you come to this stage. I am very well acquainted with some professionals who are successful in producing "parody and comedy tracks" from existing songs. They had to re-do the entire cdg file to produce them. When you have your karaoke built, for example, by KBS, you are ready to re-create your own .bin file (this function is in KBS too).

    (G) Burn your own (modified) karaoke track (in .bin format) onto disk.

I am not a DJ, KJ, or a musician, but I can assure you, it can be done technically, depending on how much (time and money) you want to spend on it.

    Have fun and GOOD LUCK.
